On Saturday May 31st we hosted the 2nd Best of British Bike Day which attracted about 90 British bikes to the rear of the Red Lion in Cassington with at least the same amount of non-British bikes calling in at the front of the pub during the day. The local Norton Owners Club joined us after first enjoying a ride in the local area. 15 members of various branches of the Velocette Owners Club added a goodly amount of black and gold (and silver and blue) to the proceedings. Many models were on show from an iron head MAC to Thruxton and MSS to KSS. At least one owner had purchased his Velocette from new (1960).
As always the mix of British bikes that graced the garden was hugely varied as can be seen in the above images. Quite a few of the riders had ridden from far off locations but there were also many from the local area and we hope that many will visit us again. I witnessed many riders meeting up again after many years. I met up with Terry C whom I had not seen for at least 15 years – we were members of the original Oxford branch of the NOC in the 1972 era. Good times remembered.
The likelihood is that we will hold this event in 2015.
Once again many thanks to Jan and Bil for allowing us to use the garden and to the members of the Cassington Sports and Social Club who manned the BBQ.
