Just a gentle reminder to everyone that should you be at a loose end on Saturday 7th then fire up the old girl and make your way to the 8 Bells at Eaton and check out the machinery gathered at the Cafe Racer Day. Even better if you have a cafe racer type machine then enter your machine in the competition. The machines can be any engine in any frame but must have clipon type bars (very loose definition of a CR)
There will be prizes for Furthest Ridden, Best in Show and cerstificates for other things.
The local branch of the Norton Owners Club have organised a repeat event of Cafe Racer Day to be held on Saturday 7th September at The Eight Bells at Eaton near Cumnor, Oxfordshire. The event will be from 11am to 5pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
Full details of the event can be seen by clicking on the following link CRD Poster-Flier 24May13
The same event was held 2 years ago and a few of our members attended and found it enjoyable.
Stan Dibben and Ken Sprayson will present the prizes – any make of cafe racer, any nationality, trailered or ridden are welcome to enter the competition.
Approximately 40 very different Cafe Racer styled bikes turned up as well as some 40 other bikes and a couple of vintage cars and a scooter.
Stan Dibben and Ken Sprayson were the guests of honour and performed the judging of best in show and highly commended. Stan passengered Eric Oliver during the 1953 season and together they won the FIM sidecar championship that year, Ken Sprayson is a highly respected frame designer who worked for Reynolds. Both men chatted away to all and sundry during the day and I think enjoyed being involved.
Judging bikes is always going to be very subjective and 2 experts will never agree but their “Best of Day” choice of a Norton Dominator with lovely attention to detail was a good choice.
